Halo Pets Blog: Diary of a Stray Cat Mommy (Part 2)

Please visit the Halo Pets Blog to read the continuation of my article, Diary of a Stray Cat Mommy Part 2. Here is an excerpt:

Little MarleyMarley is half the size of her siblings and is completely malnourished. She is making steady progress and is finally able to move, meow, eat and go to the bathroom on her own. She still isn’t able to support herself to sit upright or walk, but she’s trying. Thankfully, I work out of my home office so I am here to give her the 24-hour-a-day care that she requires.

Again, if you could, please visit the Halo Pets Blog to read the rest of this article. Make sure to digg it, share it, link to it, or leave a comment. In the near future, I’ll be posting an update on how the first litter of kittens are doing. They are about 5 month old already, so I’ll make sure to include lots of pictures to show how much they have grown. Thanks again for your anticipated support!

Halo Pets Blog: Diary of a Stray Cat Mommy (Part 1)

I’m very excited to announce that I got the opportunity to share my kitten and feral cat rescue story on the Halo Pet’s Blog! Here is an excerpt:

MarleyI live in a busy suburban neighborhood located minutes outside of Baltimore City. Between people ignoring the stray cat population in the area and all of the un-spayed/un-neutered “house cats” that are allowed to roam the streets, my neighborhood has become home to an overwhelming amount of feral cats.

If you live in an area overrun with stray or feral cats like I do, there are countless reasons why you should act to help them, one of which, Marley, is sitting next to me right now.

Kitten Update: New Pictures!

If you’ve read my Free Services for Animal Rescues & Shelters post from July 30th or if you follow me on Twitter, you already know that I found some baby kittens living under my front porch. The “momma cat” ended up moving five of her six kittens somewhere else, leaving one tiny little guy behind. My husband and I took him in immediately because it was obvious that “momma cat” hadn’t come back to feed him. We looked around the neighborhood for the other five kittens but could not find them. A few days later, our neighbor mentioned that she had found some kittens living under her house! I ended up spending the entire afternoon that day under her house, crawling on my stomach, in the 100 degree weather with the mosquitoes and spiders. I was to to find three kittens - we still have no idea as to what happened to the last two.

As for the two little boys (one gray, one orange & white) and the two little girls (both orange & white) we rescued… they’ve comfortably taken up residence in my office. I did manage to find a shelter that is willing to take them in a few weeks. I would still prefer to find loving, permanent homes for them myself; I can’t image the thought of these little babies living in cages somewhere.

They are now 6 1/2 weeks old. If I’m going to be successful with placing them with new families, I need to start the “email-everyone-I know-with-cute-kitten-pictures” campaign very soon. Here are some of the pictures:

Free Services for Animal Rescues & Shelters

It seems ironic. It was only two days ago when I posted Recent Stuff, where I explained that raising those orphaned kittens took up a lot of my time. What’s ironic about that? I found their mother yesterday… and all of her new kittens.

I made three decisions after my under expected discovery:

  1. Catch the feral “momma” cat and have her spayed.
  2. Either find loving homes or a good no-kill shelter for the kittens.
  3. Volunteer my graphic and / or web design services to reputable animal rescues and shelters.

I spent half of the day today on looking at websites with for crowded shelters… the other half on the phone being told “we aren’t accepting new kittens”. I’m certainly willing and able to take care of my own cat situation (on my own if I have to), but after looking at all of those websites, it really made me think. I don’t necessarily have the time to volunteer in the shelters. I also don’t have enough extra money laying around to help all them financially. I figured that offering my web design service free of charge seemed to be the right thing to do.

If you are associated with an animal rescue or shelter that is looking for graphic design, logo design, a new website or a website “face lift”, please contact me - I’d really love to help.

Recent Stuff

As you can see the site still isn’t finished. I decided to take a couple of weeks off while things were slow so that I could take care of my personal life. It’s been a busy summer! Nothing has quite gone as planned, but it’s been a fun ride so far. I made a bunch of priorities for myself during the spring but then life happened. All of the chaos started when I found six baby kittens which were abandoned in my shed. Feeding, bathing and playtime with them every three hours took up a lot of my time - not to mention that they lived in my office. At least I got a Petey out of it:

Baby Petey

After all of the kitties (except for Petey of course) left home it was back to work. My partner and I were becoming pretty successful with Worker Bee Media, our Amazon store. Selling off all of my unwanted / never played CDs and DVDs from my record store days felt really good actually. During that time with other people working out of my home office I decided to do some equipment upgrades and expansions - it’s unfortunate that the house didn’t expand too! I found myself designing websites, MySpace pages and blog templates from the couch in my living using the new laptop. By the time that my phone actually started ringing… it broke. After paying $900 (billing error with my cell phone provider, argh!) I finally got a beautiful new Motorazr2 v9. It’s been an entire series of unfortunate events. Thankfully for me however, everything has seemed to work out alright.

So with a couple of weeks off, I’ve decided to get back on the horse, finish what I’ve started and start taking on new clients once again. My first assignment is to finally finish this site! Make sure to keep checking up on the 6b Design website or subscribe to the feed to keep up-to-date with whats going on - expect lots of exciting changes!
